Background

Moti Digital, Mexico,  has been providing creative graphic solutions using the most innovative printing technology, since 2004.

Moti president and founder Alberto Garcia de Quevedo and his team print and finish on all kinds of material – such as PVC, acrylic, glass, tiles, laptops, wood, aluminum and fabrics – to create Large Format Digital printing, Visual merchandising, POP material, Street Visuals, Stands, Retail images, Shop Windows, Building Wraps, Backlit Displays, Conceptualization, Props, Photobooks and many more…

Their kit includes several wide-format printers including: a Durst Rho 312R, 2 x Durst Rho P5 350’s, HP Latex 3000, HP Latex 570, HP Stitch S1000 126in, EFI VUTEk 5r, Epson SC-P8000 series SpectroProofer, 2 x Zund G3 3XL and Kongsberg XP24 cutters. 

On the second day of installation, we were up and running. We were producing on our Durst machines, and by the end of the week, we were producing on all our machines with PrintFactory. I was amazed at the colour consistency across all the devices on different substrates, from UV ink to latex ink to dye sublimation ink on the Durst's and on the HP’s. I could not believe the ink saving consistently 20% plus across all the devices on the test files we printed - many software suppliers promised savings, but we saw these savings for ourselves. I could not believe the grey balance control and how quick and easy it was to build the VISU Device-Link media profiles, with multiple profiles being built, at the same time My team was so impressed with the layout tool, especially how easy it was to prep files for output, nest them up, put cut marks on send, and send the print data to the RIP which processes multiple jobs and prints them at the same time and automatically sends cut data to the cutters. By installing the PrintFactory Connect subscription we benefited from the powerful front end tools including the design quality Editor tool - this has made my pre press team happier and increased their efficiency. Our XML specialists can also integrate PrintFactory with our MIS and ERP systems to give me full visibility of the operation. It’s taken Moti Digital to another level. Moti Digital wanted to improve their productivity but they were losing time and spending money, constantly chasing colour across multiple devices.

The firm’s setup compounded their challenges. Despite the inevitable color drift over time, Moti utilized a variety of printers (flatbed, roll-to-roll) with UV, dye sublimation, and latex inks, catering to a wide range of media. However, there was a significant disconnect between what appeared on screen and the contract proof, resulting in mismatched outputs.

While each job’s color profile was initially finalized correctly and met the buyer’s standards during the first run, reproducing the same job later in the year proved problematic. The team struggled to achieve color consistency, leading to time-consuming adjustments and bottlenecks on the shop floor. Moreover, the existing color management software posed its own set of challenges, with only a select few individuals in the company capable of operating it effectively. This situation took a toll on morale.

The staff grew increasingly frustrated as production halted, while overtime expenses continued to rise. The need for skilled personnel to perform color corrections drained resources and caused production teams to wait for issues to be resolved. Color matching consumed valuable time, wasted ink, and resulted in excessive media usage—difficult costs to pass on to clients for billing purposes.

With PrintFactory software running, color matching is now guaranteed and easy enough for anyone to do. The costly bottlenecks are no more. This new workflow is boosting Moti Digital’s production by over 25%, and team morale is up!

Behind the scenes, PrintFactory software uses an algorithm that solves all of the problems caused by colour drift.

For the setup, we worked closely with the team to make sure a switch-over didn’t cause disruption. They went for our Connect Plan in a Software as a Service (SaaS) format, and we were onsite for five days to get their printers set up and calibrated, first time around. On-site staff training was a given, of course.

The output quality and colour improvements seen on day one meant that production started being moved from the existing two RIP solutions to PrintFactory on day two, and by the end of the week the majority of production on all Moti’s printer fleet had been moved to PrintFactory, especially as over 20% of ink usage was being saved at the same time.

PrintFactory’s colour management toolkit and device-link profiling technology is now matching visuals and proofs – time after time after time. Our device-link engine is delivering the colour quality and consistency that Moti needed, across all their devices and substrates, and (as the EcoSave module is using less ink without compromising on colour fidelity) the bottom-line savings are business-wide. The team’s much happier too. Everyone in the business can use the software to get that accuracy.

Because they can easily create multiple profiles in as little as 20 minutes with the assistance of their new Barbieri Spectro qb, the team can take real ownership of the colour management process. And, as the device-link profiles are frozen into what’s known as a ‘golden state’, they can also re-calibrate any printers being affected by colour drift in just a couple of clicks – essential for jobs that are printed weeks or months apart.
